Other Features

This guide covers TNS import, SQL history, result sharing, Quick Query, the AI assistant, and the local MCP server.

Import Oracle TNS Entries

Open File -> Import -> tnsnames.ora.
Select the Oracle tnsnames.ora file.
Review the imported connection configurations.
Add usernames and passwords, test, and save the connections.

Aliases and connection details are imported from the file. Credentials are not imported. Resolve duplicate names and organize the resulting connections in the Connection Manager.

SQL History

Open Edit -> History or use the configured history shortcut. SQL History records executed statements and their connection context. Search or filter entries, select an entry to inspect it, and copy the SQL back into an editor. The history limit is configured in Preferences.

Share Query Results

Execute a query and open its result in the data view.
Use the data-view Share action.
Choose a duration and output format: HTML or PNG.
Optionally enter a password.
Choose LAN for intranet sharing or WWW for internet sharing.
Click Generate and share one of the generated URLs.

Sharing preferences set the default folder, port, duration, format, and password. The current dialog does not provide controls for view-count limits, themes, viewer sorting/filtering, or viewer export permissions.

Review data before generating a link. Use passwords and short durations for sensitive internal data, and never publish credentials, secrets, or regulated personal data. Open Edit -> Share History to review previously generated shares and revoke links when they are no longer needed.

Quick Query

Quick Query runs SQL against a saved connection without opening a database workbench first.

Open it with Alt+Space on Windows/Linux or Option+Space on macOS.
It is also available from Database -> Quick Query.
Enter SQL to execute it.
Enter schema.table to run a table query.
Enter @connection to select a saved connection.
Press Tab to complete the highlighted suggestion.

Results are shown in the fast data view. The shortcut can be changed in Key Mapping.

AI Assistant

Configure the assistant in Preferences using the provider, base URL, API key, model settings, and execution-confirmation option shown by the current build. Open the Assistant sidebar tab, or use its configured shortcut. Do not send credentials or sensitive data to an external provider.

MCP Server

SQLife can expose a local Model Context Protocol server for MCP clients. Enable and configure it in Preferences, then copy the generated local MCP link. The server can use configured database connections and may be allowed to perform modifications depending on the Allow modify setting.

Keep the server bound to trusted interfaces and review the modification setting before connecting an AI client. Disable it when it is not needed.
